FESTIVITIES
Every city/village festivity involves a religious event, and they have traditional dancing, traditional Asturian singing "tonada", "puya del ramu" (a traditional bread auction), all of them made along the typical Asturian pilgrimages.
Here we have some of the most traditional ones:
-S. Antonio, in Piñeres, which helds one of the most ancient procession/parade known as "Toreo del Santu".
-Our Lady of Miravalles, in Soto(September , 8th); a religious pilgrimage held on the prairie of the sanctuary, with a deeply asturian tradition. The Virgin of Miravalles is the patron Saint and forever mayoress of our council.
-S. Martín, or "fiesta de los Humanitarios", in Moreda(November, llth); a public holiday in the council, it has been declared to be an event of Tourist National Interest, with a gastronomic and traditional character. The Humanitarians society of S. Martín and the city of Moreda were awarded a prize for being "Pueblo Ejemplar de Asturias" 2007, given by the foundation "Premios Principe de Asturias".
We also have all arround the year, fairs and markets.
Cabañaquinta has stablished itself as the centre of the livestock market of the council and on November 26th, the "Mercaón" market festivity is held(public holiday in the council). Being traditionally a horse fair, it also counts with an important presence of cattle. To this fair atmosphere, we have to add a very appreciated gastronomic offer with the typical beans "fabada", tripe and minced meat dishes, and "casadielles" and "panchón".
In Cabañaquinta, it is also held a traditional arts and crafts fair, in June. And all over the council, there are many Gastronomic Sessions.
