Council of Aller(374 km2)
The landscape of Aller is marked by our valleys and mountains, being its highest peaks in the Cantabric Mountains, our southern limit and boundary with León. The four natural passes to the plateau are: S. Isidro, Piedrafita, Vegarada and the Roman road of La Carisa, being all of them places of a considerable interest, with its native forest(chestnut tree, beech, birch and holly tree), its animal life(fox, deer, chamois, roebuck, wolf and wild boar, otter and marten; birds as the "urogallo", the partridge, the trush, the "neverín" and the "zapiqueta" among others); as well as plant life, a lot of fountains, streams and plenty of pasture lands. The valleys of Aller are very beautifull, and they are located near various rivers (Braña, Negro, S. Julian and Aller), which are some of the best trout-fishing areas. On the river´s sides we find a lot of fertile fields where they grow the maize/corn, products from the fruit and vegetable gardens and fodder products.
From Cabañaquinta downwards, descending northwest, we find the main urban centres (Oyanco, Moreda, Caborana). Nowadays, in Caborana, we have the only mining explotation left in the council.
The climate in Aller is marked by a large and regular amount of precipitations along with a warm temperature which leds to the existance of its various and plentiful vegetation.
The council has an outstanding place to practise slope soaring known as Coto Bello, a former opencut mine now restored, where its many forest paths make it easy to reach to wonderful spots with spectacular sights from our enviroment, and so they are used to practise quad routes, four wheel drive routes as well as mountain biking routes.
To practise sportive or mountain climbing, we have two schools, in Pelúgano and in Cuevas. We also have descents in canyons in Riofrío.
Here, we are going to list some of the hiking and btt routes of the council:
